White House’s World Cup head defends Trump lobbying Fifa over red card

politics

According to the Guardian, the White House's World Cup head has defended President Trump's effort to pressure FIFA into lifting the suspension of US player Folarin Balogun. The president argued that Brazilian referee Raphael Claus, who issued Balogun's red card during the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, has a questionable history. Trump pointed to a two thousand twenty-four Brazilian senate investigation into referee assignment practices as evidence. However, that investigation did not actually accuse Claus of any wrongdoing. The suspension appeal came ahead of the game against Belgium.
