US stock markets fall amid Iran strikes and potential higher interest rates

business

According to The Guardian, US stock markets fell on Wednesday after President Trump declared the ceasefire with Iran over at the NATO summit in Ankara, and the Federal Reserve signaled concerns that could warrant higher interest rates. Trump's comments sent oil prices sharply higher — Brent crude, the global benchmark, jumped more than five percent to crest eighty dollars a barrel. Stocks slid in step: the Dow closed down just over one percent, a drop of about five hundred points, while the S&P five hundred saw a small loss. The tech-heavy Nasdaq bucked the trend and rose slightly. The selloff was global earlier in the day, with the UK's FTSE one hundred down one percent and Japan's Nikkei falling two point one percent.
