According to Boing Boing, in nineteen sixty-six, apprentice printers in Beccles, Suffolk invented a pub game called dwile flonking—and claimed it came from a fifteen eighty-five manuscript they'd discovered in an attic. Except there was no manuscript. The Suffolk county archivist found zero evidence the game existed before nineteen sixty-six. But the hoax stuck; the town loved the game anyway.
