Platner ends campaign for Maine Senate seat after sexual assault allegation

According to The 19th, Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for Maine's U.S. Senate seat, has suspended his campaign. The move came two days after a report of an alleged sexual assault nearly five years ago led his own allies to urge him to step aside. Platner, a military veteran, oyster farmer and first-time candidate, had launched his bid against a Republican opponent. The 19th reports he announced the suspension this week.
