Neil the one-tonne elephant seal causing traffic jams in rural Tasmania has returned to sea – for now
other
According to The Guardian, Neil, a five-year-old southern elephant seal weighing one tonne, has returned to the sea after weeks at his usual haul-out spot in southern Tasmania. The seal became an internet sensation for his beachside antics—though less for the right reasons; he left a trail of damaged traffic infrastructure in his wake. Premier Jeremy Rockliff quipped that damaged cones and street signs could finally 'breathe a sigh of relief.' The reprieve is temporary, however: elephant seals haul out twice yearly, so Neil's next chaos cycle is already looming.
