Will the end of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians mean a caregiving crisis?
politics
According to The 19th, the end of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians could ripple straight into America's hospitals and nursing homes. After the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to wind down the program, lawmakers from both parties warned of a looming caregiving crunch. Their concern is a matter of arithmetic: of the more than three hundred fifty thousand Haitians who hold lawful TPS, roughly a third work in the healthcare system. Cut off their status abruptly, these lawmakers argue, and the shortfall lands on the very wards and bedside jobs that are already hard to staff.
