Maine Democrats plan convention to replace scandal-hit Platner – US politics live
politics
According to The Guardian, the Maine Democratic Party has voted to hold a convention to choose a new Senate candidate after its pick, Graham Platner, withdrew from the race following accusations of sexual assault. Platner announced his exit in an angry video, accusing the party and the media of acting as, in his words, judge, jury and executioner. The reshuffle is one of several political developments the outlet is tracking, alongside President Trump's declaration that the Iran-US ceasefire is over — a statement that pushed Brent crude oil up more than five percent to cross eighty dollars a barrel — and a Manhattan federal judge's order releasing the more than five million dollars Trump owes writer E. Jean Carroll, a decision he immediately moved to appeal.
