Secrecy surrounds Bayeux Tapestry's imminent Channel crossing

world

According to RFI, the Bayeux Tapestry is about to make history. For the first time in nearly a thousand years, the sixty-eight-meter embroidered chronicle of the eleven sixty-six Norman conquest will cross the Channel to London. Under heavy police guard and cover of darkness, the medieval textile—woven in wool shortly after the invasion it depicts—is set to depart within the coming days, officials have revealed. This iconic historical document, a cornerstone of European medieval culture, has remained in France throughout its entire existence.
