First Thing: Second day of US strikes on Iran as Trump says Tehran ‘behaving very badly’

world

According to The Guardian, the US military carried out strikes on Iran for a second day, hours after President Trump declared an interim agreement to end the war was over. Iranian state media reported explosions in the port city of Bandar Abbas, in the coastal town of Sirik, and in Bushehr province, home to Iran's nuclear-power-plant complex. US Central Command confirmed the strikes. Trump, speaking at a NATO summit in Ankara, accused Iran of launching drones and a missile at ships and said Tehran was, in his words, behaving very badly, though he insisted the action would not be long-term. The economic ripples were immediate: US stock markets fell, and Brent crude jumped more than five percent to crest eighty dollars a barrel. The International Monetary Fund lowered its global growth forecast to three percent, citing the conflict. One energy analyst noted that tanker traffic through the strait of Hormuz has essentially stopped.
