The Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, whose gravelly voice powered the 1983 chart-topping ballad "Total Eclipse of the Heart," has died at seventy-five. According to France 24, the Grammy-nominated pop star passed away yesterday in a hospital in Portugal following an illness, after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in May. France 24 notes that her distinctive rasp was itself the result of an accident, when she failed to rest enough after an operation to remove nodules from her vocal cords.
