US lawmakers urge stricter monitoring of medically assisted suicide in hospices

According to The Guardian, a bipartisan group of US lawmakers has pressed Health and Human Services secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to impose stricter reporting rules on medically assisted suicide in hospices. In a letter this week, the members of Congress warned that older adults, people with disabilities, and those with unsupportive caregivers could be especially vulnerable to being pressured into ending their lives. They are calling for tighter monitoring aimed at preventing discrimination and coercion in how the practice is carried out.
