Fifteen years of independence for South Sudan, but still little to celebrate
world
According to RFI English, South Sudan, the world's youngest country, marks fifteen years of independence on Thursday. The milestone follows decades of war with Sudan, a two thousand five peace agreement, and a twenty eleven self-determination referendum in which almost ninety-nine percent of voters backed statehood. But RFI notes the hopes that came with independence have given way to renewed conflict, economic collapse, and political deadlock, leaving little to celebrate.
