According to The Guardian, he had attended Australia's largest Indigenous cultural gathering—held in northeast Arnhem Land—every year since 2019 and vowed to keep doing so for the duration of his premiership. The absence breaks an explicit promise to the Yolŋu people and their annual celebration of Yolŋu culture.
