Health care costs are becoming a defining issue in the midterm elections. According to the latest Axios-Ipsos poll, majorities of Americans say they'd vote for candidates who support lowering their health care expenses, and the concern transcends party lines. More than sixty percent back direct-to-consumer drug sales; a similar share supports reviving enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies. The pinch is felt most acutely by younger adults, parents with children, and lower-income households. As consumers navigate rising costs for gas, groceries, and medicine, affordability has emerged as a central political battleground.
