Determination of Rates and Terms for Making and Distributing Phonorecords (Phonorecords V)

business

The Copyright Royalty Board is taking public comment on music licensing rates starting today. These rates, effective beginning in 2028, determine what streaming and digital platforms pay songwriters and rights holders when they legally reproduce and distribute music. The music industry can submit feedback now before the Board finalizes rates for the 2028 to 2032 period. According to the Federal Register, this process applies to the Section 115 statutory license—the legal framework that allows platforms to legally make and distribute copies of songs.
