Mahmood’s cutting of protections to enable ‘one in, one out’ asylum deal with France ruled unlawful

politics

A UK High Court has ruled that the Home Secretary's decision to reduce protections for potential trafficking victims was unlawful. The move was made to enable a 'one in, one out' asylum returns deal with France to proceed. According to The Guardian, five asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan who were earmarked for return challenged the policy, arguing that removing trafficking protections violated their rights. The ruling means those denied trafficking victim status now retain the right to request reconsideration of that decision.
