Pressure mounts on Texas to address brutal heat crisis in prison cells

politics

Texas is facing growing legal pressure over dangerously hot prison cells during extreme summer heat. According to The Guardian, the state's department of criminal justice has been hit with a new wrongful death lawsuit from the family of Jason Wilson, an inmate found dead in his solitary confinement cell at the Coffield unit in July twenty twenty-four. Texas holds the largest prison population in the country, and advocates say the un-airconditioned conditions expose inmates to illness, suffering, and death.
