Marco Rubio announces deportation of Minnesota man pardoned last month

politics

The Guardian reports that Tou Lue Vang, a Laotian immigrant, has been deported from the United States, an expulsion announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Vang was convicted in 2006 of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for raping a young girl between 2002 and 2004. Because Laos had initially refused to accept deportees, he lived in Minnesota for nearly two decades. According to the report, state officials in Minnesota had pardoned him over that conviction just last month, but the federal government proceeded with his removal to Laos.
