business
Per The Guardian, New York City is enacting a new rule to ban deceptive subscription practices—a practice that traps customers into paying for gym memberships, streaming services, and other recurring charges. Starting October first, companies must provide a simple way to cancel these subscriptions, or face fines of five hundred twenty-five dollars per user, back fees, and additional penalties. The regulation, announced by the city's consumer protection office, is the first of its kind in the United States.
