Russia opens investigation into ‘Empire of Geese,’ the anime-and-gaming community whose creators allegedly locked children’s computers with ransomware and then demanded nude photos to unlock them

Russia's Investigative Committee says it has opened criminal investigations into what it calls unlawful actions against teenagers, Meduza reports. The probes, running in the Moscow and Sverdlovsk regions, were confirmed on July 10. They follow media reports that the creators of a popular online anime-and-gaming community known as Empire of Geese had coerced teenagers into producing sexualized photos and videos.
