North Carolina's famous eleven-foot-eight can-opener bridge was raised to twelve feet four inches, which significantly reduced its truck-strike rate. As Boing Boing reports, Louisville, Kentucky's equivalent has since claimed the crown: a major road closure has diverted traffic straight into a low-clearance overpass now averaging about one truck impact per day.
