Niantic is marking the occasion with a massive event in Times Square, where a thousand players will gather to catch the legendary Mewtwo. The game's vice president, Michael Steranka, recently reflected on how the company's event execution has evolved. Ten years ago, an early large-scale event was nearly a disaster—servers crashed as too many players tried to participate simultaneously. But Steranka's goal for this tenth-anniversary celebration is to create what he calls 'core memories' for everyone who shows up.
