‘Children were calling for their mummies’: UK pupils struggle in 40C-plus classrooms

Teachers across the UK are calling for schools to be urgently adapted for extreme heat, after temperatures in some classrooms climbed above forty degrees Celsius. The Guardian reports that pupils and staff have suffered heatstroke, nausea and headaches during two recent heatwaves. Staff described desperate measures to keep children cool, covering younger pupils in wet paper towels as they lay on the floor, while older students were given trays of water to soak their feet under their desks.
