Typhoon Bavi forces Taiwan evacuations, batters Japan islands

France 24 reports that more than fourteen thousand people in Taiwan fled their homes on Saturday as Typhoon Bavi lashed the island with heavy rain and strong winds. The storm had already cut power to thousands in Japan's Okinawa islands and was bearing down on eastern China.
