The Guardian reports that the NHS faces a drastic anaesthetist shortage, unable to perform one point five million operations annually. This blocks about four thousand procedures daily. With more than eight million patients on waiting lists across Britain, many in urgent need of surgery, the shortage is creating a critical healthcare backlog.
