U.S. launches new Iran strikes after IRGC declares Strait of Hormuz "closed"
world
Axios reports that the U.S. military has launched a new round of strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, hours after Iran's Revolutionary Guard struck a commercial cargo ship and declared the strait closed until further notice. Central Command says it's the third round of American attacks on Iran this week, hitting radar sites, missile and drone storage, launch sites, and surface-to-air launchers. The Cyprus-flagged container ship suffered an onboard fire and heavy engine-room damage, and one civilian crew member is missing. The escalation came just after regional talks in which Oman had proposed reopening both shipping lanes; Iran's delegation took that plan back to Tehran without agreement.
