Al Jazeera reports that Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar's former emir, has died at the age of seventy-four. He ruled the Gulf nation from nineteen ninety-five until twenty thirteen, when he stepped aside to hand power to his son, Sheikh Tamim.
