US and Iran exchange strikes as Tehran declares strait of Hormuz closed again

world

Iran has once again declared the strait of Hormuz closed, following six days of hostilities with the United States, The Guardian reports. The move reverses an agreement signed last month that was meant to restore maritime traffic through the waterway and open the door to a broader peace deal. According to The Guardian, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the closure on Sunday after an intense exchange of aerial bombardment with US forces, though the US said some ships were still crossing the strait. The strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital oil shipping routes.
