The Guardian reports that Richard Scolyer, named Australian of the Year in 2024, will be honoured with a state memorial service on Monday at the Sydney Opera House. A cancer specialist who became his own patient, Scolyer died of brain cancer on the 7th of June at the age of 59. According to the outlet, dignitaries including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, and Governor General Sam Mostyn are expected to attend. In separate weekend news, the paper notes property auction clearances nudged back up, with almost fifty-five percent of homes selling after weeks below the halfway mark.
