Disney's live-action Moana, produced at a cost of two hundred fifty million dollars, opened atop the box office. But per Channel NewsAsia, the film has received dismal critical reviews for being essentially a shot-for-shot remake of the original. Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, alongside newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia as the princess—Lagaʻaia earned praise despite the film's poor reception.
