US launches new wave of strikes against Iran as Tehran says diplomacy has proven ‘futile’

world

The United States has begun a fresh round of strikes against Iran as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz continue to mount. According to The Guardian, US Central Command said the attacks started at nine p.m. GMT on Sunday, describing them as an effort to keep degrading Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial ships passing through the strait. Tehran, for its part, said the latest strikes had rendered futile all of the diplomatic efforts of recent months, as both sides trade heavy missile and drone fire and pressure builds on any prospect of a truce.
