US launches more strikes on Iran as renewed standoff over Strait of Hormuz intensifies

Euronews reports that the United States has launched fresh strikes on Iran, with Iranian state media describing hits across large areas of the country's south and west. Those included Qeshm island and Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz, as well as Khuzestan province along the border with Iraq. Missile alert sirens also sounded at dawn Monday in Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet. The reporting points to a deepening standoff over the strait, one of the world's most critical shipping lanes.
