More than 16,000 refugees unable to reunite with families in UK, says Refugee Council
politics
More than sixteen thousand refugees have been unable to reunite with their families in the UK, according to the Refugee Council. The organization says many are now stuck in conflict zones or turning to people-smugglers to reach safety. The Guardian reports that the government suspended the refugee family reunion route last September. That route had let someone granted refugee status bring immediate family, such as a spouse and children under eighteen, to join them. The suspension had been expected to lift by this spring.
