Sam Neill tributes: actors, directors and leaders remember ‘a true gentleman’

entertainment

The Guardian reports that tributes are flowing in for actor Sam Neill, who died suddenly on Monday at the age of seventy-eight. A star of more than one hundred films, including the Jurassic Park series and The Piano, Neill is being remembered as a champion of New Zealand's arts, culture and environment, and a generous collaborator. Australian director Phillip Noyce, who directed him in the 1989 thriller Dead Calm, told the paper that Neill was perhaps the most gentlemanly actor he ever encountered, level-headed and sincere in a business full of crazy egos, adding that his word was his contract.
