Weather tracker: Unusually warm rivers affect French nuclear power plants
science
Per The Guardian, unusually warm rivers across Western and Central Europe are forcing French nuclear power plants to reduce electricity output. Persistent high temperatures combined with below-average rainfall during June and the first half of July have lowered water levels and raised river temperatures. Since French environmental law limits how much heat plants can discharge back into rivers, operators must cut power generation when waters get too warm.
