Israel sets October date for first elections since Hamas attacks in 2023

Israel's heading to elections in late October—the first national vote since the October seventh, twenty twenty-three Hamas attacks. Benjamin Netanyahu and his governing coalition will finally face voters for the first time since those attacks. The Guardian reports that as the Knesset prepares to dissolve this week, the government is racing to pass several controversial laws. The coalition, described as the most far-right in Israeli history, apparently hopes legislative action strengthens its position before polling day.
