US outbreak of parasite causing ‘watery diarrhea’ rises to more than 2,800 cases

health

The Guardian reports an outbreak of cyclosporiasis—a parasitic infection—has sickened more than twenty-eight hundred people across Michigan and Ohio. The illness causes watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, and weight loss. The outbreak coincides with a significant challenge for these states: one year ago, the Trump administration cut funding for state and local health departments, including programs dedicated to tracking food-borne illness.
