US judge nullifies Trump deal to resolve IRS lawsuit in scathing ruling
politics
A federal judge has struck down a widely criticized settlement in a lawsuit over the leak of President Trump's tax returns. The Guardian reports that US District Judge Kathleen Williams ruled the deal—which would have established one point eight billion dollars in compensation for alleged victims of government weaponization and granted the president and his family immunity from future tax audits—was negotiated improperly. The judge strongly criticized both the government and the president's lawyers for using the courts to engineer an outcome favorable to Trump. The original ten-billion-dollar lawsuit filed by Trump and his sons remains unresolved.
