A tick bite can make you allergic to meat, and cases are climbing

Boing Boing reports that a tick bite can trigger an allergy to red meat. Alpha-gal syndrome, caused by the Lone Star tick, is spreading so rapidly that researchers just convened the first-ever scientific conference dedicated to it. The CDC estimates four hundred fifty thousand Americans now have the condition, and a recent study found roughly one in four people tested across five Southern states carried the antibodies.
