Democrats' Jeffries and Mamdani wings face off in New York

politics

According to Axios, tomorrow's New York Democratic congressional primaries will showcase a clash between the party's establishment and a rising left-wing movement. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is backing incumbents, while New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorses left-wing challengers. In the tenth district, Mamdani's backed New York City Comptroller Brad Lander against Jeffries' choice, Congressman Dan Goldman. The thirteenth district features Congresswoman Adriano Espaillat facing democratic socialist Darializa Avila-Chevalier, also Mamdani-supported. The most-watched race is the open twelfth district seat—featuring JFK's grandson Jack Schlossberg, attorney George Conway, and AI regulation architect Micah Lasher. Two tech-connected super PACs are spending heavily: OpenAI-connected Think Big has invested nearly eight million dollars to oppose Lasher, while Anthropic-affiliated Jobs and Democracy PAC is spending nine million dollars to support him.
