Expanded access to education, improved healthcare, and strong local development have reshaped the remote mountainous area—progress often linked to foundations associated with the Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community. The Ismaili population, numbering nearly five hundred thousand across Pakistan, makes up around ninety percent of the valley's inhabitants. But the region's rapid development now faces pressure from climate change, testing whether this model of progress can be sustained.
