Iran targets Bahrain and Jordan in retaliation as US strikes continue
world
The conflict between the United States and Iran escalated for a third straight day on Tuesday, with each side widening its list of targets. The Guardian reports that a five-hour US military operation struck sites across Iran, including the port cities of Bushehr and Bandar Abbas, in what officials described as an effort to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping. Iran retaliated by striking US allies and hitting two tankers in the strait of Hormuz, and according to the Guardian, extended its response to Bahrain and Jordan. The strikes came just hours after Donald Trump said the US would take control of the strait of Hormuz and charge passing ships a toll for safe passage, raising the stakes over one of the world's most vital oil shipping routes.
