This Historic 110-Year-Old NYC Business Is Shutting Down

American Wood Column Corp, a hundred and ten-year-old family-owned ornamental cast maker in Brooklyn, is shutting down per Adafruit Blog. The company maintained a library of more than nine thousand decorative molds — scrolls, rosettes, medallions, and architectural details — some dating back to the eighteen hundreds, which craftspeople used to press ornamental designs onto walls, ceilings, and furniture. As New York City's last wood column factory, its closure marks the end of a distinctive manufacturing tradition in the city.
