Capital B is ready to open a third local news operation — about two hours east of its first one
business
Capital B, a Black-focused national and local news outlet founded in 2022, is opening its third newsroom in Augusta, Georgia. Per Nieman Lab, the outlet's current staff of twenty-five has identified a significant gap in community-centered local news coverage for Black residents in a city where roughly fifty-five percent of the population is African American. The newsroom will expand Capital B's presence beyond Atlanta and Gary, Indiana. Its founding editor must live in or have demonstrated ties to Augusta—a requirement that reflects Capital B's insight that effective local journalism runs on community relationships.
