California: thousands flock to see pair of pungent corpse flowers bloom
science
Two corpse flowers have bloomed simultaneously at the Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, per The Guardian. The titan arums, named Odorysseus and Odora, rank among the world's largest plants and are equally notorious for their pungent smell. Such simultaneous blooms are rare, and the event drew more than seven thousand visitors in a single day, with crowds queuing for hours. The 'enchanted' visitors came to experience one of nature's most remarkable botanical moments—and to endure its particularly distinctive fragrance.
