Singapore court orders Bloomberg to pay ministers $356,000 in defamation case

world

A Singapore high court has ordered Bloomberg News and reporter Low De Wei to pay damages after an article was found to defame two government ministers, The Guardian reports. The damages total four hundred sixty thousand Singapore dollars, roughly three hundred fifty-six thousand U.S. dollars—that's about one hundred seventy-eight thousand per minister. Bloomberg's editor-in-chief, John Micklethwait, maintains the organization stands by its reporting, saying the ministers imposed an extremely strained meaning on what he calls a solid story.
