Trump’s pick for attorney-general faces Senate hearing later today – US politics live

The Guardian reports that President Donald Trump's pick for attorney general — his former personal defense lawyer, Todd Blanche — faces what's expected to be a contentious Senate confirmation hearing later today. It comes as federal immigration officials have been instructed to stop pulling over vehicles until further notice, a homeland security source says, following two recent deadly shootings in Texas and Maine in which officers shot and killed immigrants in vehicles. A person also died on Tuesday during an encounter with immigration officials in Florida, the third death in one week linked to enforcement operations. The attorney general leads the Justice Department, which makes the confirmation fight a significant one.
