Death Threats, Doxxing and AI: How Animator Jorge Gutiérrez Killed His Own Show in 36 Hours (EXCLUSIVE)

Animator Jorge Gutiérrez, the director behind "The Book of Life," had signed on to lead "Punky Duck," one of three new series in the works at Amazon MGM Studios. But according to Variety, Gutiérrez killed the project himself within just thirty-six hours, after facing death threats and doxxing over the role of generative AI in the production. Gutiérrez had been openly uneasy about the technology moving into animation studios across the industry, worried that too few artists were overseeing how it gets used.
