Why I Left Google DeepMind

AI Alignment Forum has published a first-person account from a researcher explaining why he resigned from Google DeepMind. He writes that he spent months trying to push the company to cut ties with Department of Homeland Security agencies and to head off a Pentagon deal that carried no restrictions against autonomous weapons or mass surveillance, circulating a twenty-five-page proposal with contract language that he says went unaddressed by senior leadership. After Google signed a military AI agreement he characterizes as weaker even than OpenAI's, he says he could no longer stay in good conscience and left.
