France's parliament adopts assisted dying law

politics

France 24 reports that France's parliament has adopted an assisted dying law, moving the country closer to guaranteeing that right. The measure was championed by President Emmanuel Macron, who promised such a law when he was re-elected in twenty twenty-two, in what's seen as one of France's most significant social reforms since it allowed same-sex marriage in twenty twelve. If the country's highest constitutional authority approves the legislation, France will join the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada in legalising assisted dying.
